Participants were grouped in teams that spent time building bicycles for needy children as a part of their team building activities.

Every child should have a bicycle growing up, but sometimes economic hardship and other situations stand in the way. Participants of the 2011 Fall IDN Summit Team Building Challenge sponsored by VHA decided to do something to help.

Led by PossibiliTeams, Fall Team Building Challenge participants invested the first morning of their IDN Summit experience building bikes for needy and deserving children in partnership with the Dysart Community Center. The Center has been serving low-income families in the West Valley since 1963.

Team Building Challenge participants topped off the bicycle building activity by creating posters to hang on the bike with words of encouragement to the young people who would be future bike owners.

Its mission is to provide educational and development opportunities for low-income children and adults throughout the West Valley. They serve a large population covering several communities.

In addition to building the bicycles, each team created and decorated a poster with words of encouragement directed to the future bike recipient.

Last year, Team Building participants built 30 bikes, but this year, VHA challenged IDN Summit attendees to build 50 bikes to be donated to a charitable organization.

Team Building participants took part in a number of activities designed to hone skills for working together.

The Team Building Challenge also involved a number of other team-building activities. Teams rotated among several activity stations designed to improve collaboration and strategies on working together that can be applied to every-day challenges. Teams became competitive, challenging each other to beat the best times on completing team-building challenges.
