Profitable Purchasing: Moving Beyond Shopping to Strategic Health Technology Purchasing
It's a common scenario: hospital buyers carefully select equipment they believe will give the organization the most bang for its buck, only to find it's a money pit as down time, patient diversion and maintenance costs mount. Worse yet, the new equipment may not meet "big-picture" organizational needs after all.
Profitable purchasing decisions, by contrast, consider evidence-based, total cost of ownership: Equipment downtime over its lifecycle, performance forecasts, meantime to failure, cost and availability of replacement parts, possible trade value and more. It also examines apple-to-apple comparisons between plaforms, optimal terms and conditions for a specific modality.
As you may guess, OEMs aren't motivated to broadcast inferior performance metrics, so we can expect self-reported data to have undergone some level of PR treatment. So what's a hospital buyer to do?
Learn how some of your peers have achieved considerable savings by adopting a "Consumer Reports" approach to equipment selection: vendor-neutral, data-rich and evidence-based.
